It had been yet another desperate dash over no mans land, he'd been in the damned war right from the beginning. His wife had been one of the first casualties, only hours after they'd finally been married she'd been taken away from him forever. In his fury he'd joined the French army when war was declared, he'd fought at verdun, battle of the Somme and many other horrific battles. He'd seen the first effects of the chlorine gas, bombed empty cities, piles of bodies. Running over the muddied earth, dodging barbed wire and ducking down to try and avoid being wounded, Logan's heart was hammering in his chest. The friends he'd made were long dead and decayed, his younger brother the only one he wrote letters to. Logan had been wounded, gone hungry, played cards with fellow trenchmates, killed and nearly been killed. Jumping down into the enemy trench, the man looked around warily waiting for an attack to reveal itself. Instead the trench was abandoned, the coffee was still warm and uneaten pieces of bread were being devoured by hungry pigeons. His attention was caught by the ivory horn laying on a table, drawn to it he lowered his rifle and reached out for it, as soon as it was in his hand everything went black.

What stirred him was the lack of guns booming, sitting up he rubbed the back of his head, staring around at his surroundings he scrambled to his feet. He was in a forest, one that hadn't been touched by war, there were no screams of the wounded nor the stink of the decaying dead. Odder than everything else was the fact that there was an old fashioned lamppost glowing gently. There was birdsong, and a slight breeze rustling the trees, clutching his rifle in his hands he turned around warily taking everything in. How had this happened? Was he in a dream? Or was he finally dead and this was as close to heaven as he'd ever get. Deciding it'd be best to carefully scout around and see what he was up against he began moving quietly through the undergrowth, ending up in a clearing he glanced around "where the hell am I? What the hell happened" muddied and unshaven giving him a scruffy unkempt look, tired from days of labour and little sleep Logan wanted nothing more to lie down and rest. Dark rings under his eyes, the man sighed and pushed himself to keep going despite everything asking him to stop. Eventually he gave in unable to continue, sitting down with his back against a tree and his rifle within reach of something turned up. Logan signed and closed his eyes, exhausted.

Luna padded swiftly through the forest with her black nose to the ground as she followed the scent of an untalking hare keenly. Catching up to her meal, she growled as it darted down its burrow. The female in her German Shepard form put her paws into the dirt and started to dig swiftly and soon had it within her grasp. She was quick to snap it's neck and she sat there panting for a few moments before she spotted a human making his way through the undergrowth. Picking up her catch, Luna trailed after him curiously until he sat down against a tree. He was filthy and smelt of death and fear. She let out a muffled bark as his eyes closed and she came forth from the shadows.

The bark had him reacting quicker than one would expect from one looking so tired, the guns muzzle was jerked up and pointed in the direction of the owner of the bark. He still had no idea what had gone on, where he was or what had happened to the warzone he'd started in, if anything he was going to get himself court marshaled and then executed for desertion. Pale blue eyes coldly glared at the dog, unsure if it had a master that belonged to the enemy, a shepherd, german breed. Just great, he probably belonged to some jerry bastard, Logan hauled himself up onto his feet keeping the gun aimed at the dog. A careful ear listening for the sounds of any boots upon the forest floor, it was almost impossible to move quietly through the thick forest without feet stepping on withered leaves or body brushing against branches. "What do you want then dog?" he asked rhetorically firm voice indicating it probably wasn't a good idea to try and mess with him at this point in time

Luna jumped back when the man reacted and lifted some odd object pointing it at her. She tilted her head slightly and wagged her tail to show she didn't want to cause harm. She turned and placed the rabbit in the shade before bouncing forward a few steps. She dropped into a play bow and looked up at the man eagerly. He needed a bath desperately she noted with the heavy scent becoming stronger as she moved closer. The young shifted let out a few yips as she bounced around in front of him waiting to Se if he would play with her. If he did she could lead him to her cottage and allow him to rest a while like he needed.

The dog turned and dumped its prey in the shade, that wasn't dog intelligence. Dogs didn't do that, warier than before he took a step backwards the light gleaming off the bayonet blade at theh end of his rifle. "Get out of here dog" he kept his voice low somewhat growling at the creature, most dogs would take heed at the tone of his voice and back off. There would be a waterhole somewhere if he followed the animal trails where he could wash and figure out what he was going to do, about to send a couple of shots into the dirt at the canids paws to make it go back to wherever its master was - he didn't believe a dog that appeared to be this friendly didn't have a master of some kind - when garbled German had him going quiet. Ducking down and tucking himself out of the way, he surmised that this was where the missing men in the trench had ended up, how peculiar, drawing a knife he prepared himself to knife the mutt if it belonged to one fo the gang of men that were stomping past

Luna whined at his tone and she lowered her body to the ground making her seem more submissive. His reaction to the new voices told the female that they were bad and she moved to place her body between his and the new voices with raised huckles. Moving slowly she backed up closer to him and she tossed her head back trying to get him to go the other way. She let out a slight huff lightly of encouragement to make him move.

Thankfully the dog kept its mouth shut as the germans went past seemingly arguing with each other, he preferred to stay out of their way for now they far out numbered him. That and also he didn't make a hobby of killing people unless he was ordered too which mean he had no choice or they were trying to kill him. Once they were gone he got up with a quiet thankful sigh, returning his attention to the dog he narrowed his gaze, well it seemed the mutt didn't belong to the Germans. It'd possibly make itself useful if it decided to stick around, having decided that he moved onto his next manner of business which was finding a source of water. It'd been morning since he'd had a drink and it was well past midday, carefully scouting around and detecting a game trail, the handsome mud besmirched man determindedly followed the trail and after about half an hours walk through the peaceful forest and without seeing the confused germans again he came across a wide stream that cheerfully burbled its way over stones. Finding the swiftest part of the stream the man cupped hsi hands together and took a long drink of the fresh water thankfully

Luna stuck close to the man after the other humans moved past them and she had grabbed the hare. She followed him closely as he made his way closer to her home following the trails and she watched as he drank from the swift moving waters. Yipping softly she bounded back towards the stones and back to his side. She wagged her tail slowly as she placed a paw beside his knee before moving it onto it.

Straightening he mused over his options, this part of the stream wasn't deep enough to rinse his clothes and body of the mud that was caked on. So he in the end decided he'd follow the body down stream and hope that it'd widen and deepen a little, the ideal of being mostly clean urged him forward wandering along the bank of the stream unknowingly wandering further away from the shifters abode. He hummed a soft tune to himself, keeping a careful ear out incase he came across the germans again, the stream eventually became a wide slow flowing river. His rifle was sat down out of the way of it getting splashed, his ammunition was placed next to it as well as the few valuables he kept on him. He removed his battered helmet and set it over the few items he had left before he removed the jacket and shirt on his torso leaving just his dog tags hanging around his neck, crouching and dipping them into the water he made do without any soap instead teasing the mud out of the cloth with his fingers.

Luna huff softly and followed the man downstream until he stopped. She watched as he sat his pointy thing down along with some other stuff before pulling off his top and the shifter spun away from him shocked. He had moved further away from where she had wanted him but it would only take her a short time if she ran to get there and back. Dropping her hare over the small pile of metal things she took off upstream towards her home and soon arrived panting. She shifted back and unlocked the door to her cottage pushing it open. All she wore was a loose tunic that cover the essentials but did nothing to hide the lack of other clothing underneath. It was the only thing that would survive due to a spell placed upon the fabric.

She picked up a basket and loaded it up with unscented soap, a hammock and covering in case it rained, some bread and cheese and some extra rope just in case. Writing a note also she placed it on top of the pile before securing a cover over it all. Back in dog form she lifted the basket and took off at a steady trot hoping that her note wouldn't startle him. After all it was a very simple note that said, 'Greetings, My name is Luna and I have put together this basket of things for you. Should you need more just tell Nijia and she shall bring you wantever you need.'

He ignored the dogs antics, satisfied that the shirt and jacket were clean enough he straightened and moved to lay them over the stony shore. The afternoon sun was warm against his skin, a welcome change, sitting down next to his drying shirt and jacket and removed his boots and socks. Claws clicking on stones had him on edge again, turning his head around Logan was surprised at the basket in the dogs jaws, getting up he suspiciously inspected the basket. The note that was attached only confused him, how the hell would someone know that he was even here? "The hell? Someone's spying on me?!" that was the only logical conclusion he could come to, how else would someone know? His skin began to crawl at the thought of constantly being observed, he was reluctant to accept this random basket as well. Nobody did things out of the goodness of their heart, he'd been through three years of war, wringing the water out of the clothes he'd washed he considered his options. Setting them down on a dry patch of stones he warily picked through the contents of the basket, the food was taken and the net hammock as he could use it as a trap of sorts. The soap wasnt' touched despite the desire to be clean, he had o intention of dirtying a water source with soap, picking up his things and shoving his feet back into his boots Logan looked around warily he had to go down stream more now away from whoever was watching him.

Luna yipped as he read the note and she placed her paw on his leg as he looked through the basket. Her blue eyes shone brightly as he took out the food and hammock but her muzzle wrinkled when he refused the soap. Picking the basket up she sneezed as she moved over to her hare and stowed it in there before padding back to him to have it covered. She would stow the soap in his pocket later with a new note so he knew it was safe to use. Not knowing his desire to go downstream she looked back up with a wagging tail.

By the time she'd dithered around stickign the corpse in her basket, Logan had already begun heading down stream. He kept trudging along, wanting to get away from whoever the hell had been spying on him, since he'd already started walking when the dog had turned with the basket he hadn't witnessed her strange behaviour. He found a place that was better for swimming than the place he'd washed his shirts, setting his things down again he looked around before he waded into the water, if someone was spying on him he wasn't going to wash himself naked. Rinsing the mud and filth from his skin he waded back out onto the stones, dripping wet but at least clean. Sitting down he took the hammock and cut it in half, this would be useful to catch fish later on, he'd stay in the forest for a couple of days and then try to find some civilization. Feeling more comfortable he stretched and leant back on his hands waiting for his clothes to dry, he'd get a fire started soon too.

Luna growled softly and bounded after the man as he took off further down stream. When he stopped she was thankful that he was still within her territory because her neighbours weren't as friendly as she was. She bark at him as he cut the hammock up and she placed her paws on his knee. The smell of him wasn't as bad as what it had been but the man was still far from clean. Cheekily she licked his nose before darting into the river. she moved upstream a little to her fish pen to see what had been caught recently. Looking down she spotted a large white bass swimming around however she had no chance of fishing it while in her German Shepard form. Looking over at the man she let out a few short sharp barks calling for him. He wasn't ready yet to meet her human side.

Ignoring the dogs incessant barking as he worked, he found himself being interrupted by the creature, his nose was licked before the dog took off. He was as clean as he was likely to get as the strange world he'd been dumped in didn't have electricity, neatly leaving his things together he ventured into the forest returning soon with some dry wood that had been laying on the forest floor for a couple of weeks. Thankfully even green pine burns well, crouching down he'd begun to build his campfire that would see him through the night when the dog was barking yet again "Shut up! You're always barking your head off, its giving me a headache" sharp and not exactly welcoming the long stressed and tired man snapped at the creature. Returning to building the wood, he got a fire started, cutting the bit of bread into three pieces and placing a slice of the cheese on each he toasted the bread until it was gold and crisp with melted cheese ontop. Eating it he felt a little bad at snapping at the dog, it wasn't its fault that it barked all the time, its owner just hadn't trained it manners was all. He gave a soft sharp whistle to the dog and when it showed up he offered it the third piece of bread with melted cheese on it "Here pooch" his voice was quieter and softer than it'd been when he'd snapped at the animal

Luna flattened her ears as the man snapped at her before going into the forest and she took the few minutes given to her to shift back and catch the fish. She then swam back and hid the new food in the basket. Picking it up she tucked it under a bush to keep the sun off it as he came back and she lay by the bush, remaining silent just out of sight. Hearing the sharp whistle she rose and shook her thick pelt out. Padding out of the shadows she sniffed the air smelling the scent of melted cheese on toasted bread. Her head tilted at the offering and she slowly moved forward to take the offering with a gentle grip. Laying down after taking a step back she daintily ate the food before going and licking his nose in thanks.

His features twitched before he pushed the dog back "Don't" logan told the dog firmly, he hated being licked, specially on his face, disliking the texture of the slimy tongue on his skin not to mention the dog licked itself with that thing and likely ate animal shit. The fact that the animal had essentially licked most of his face when it went to lick his nose wasn't appreciated either, wiping the dog spit off of his face he huffed a little and turned his gaze to the fire a certain grimness taking hold of his features. It'd been so long, he'd been through so much and yet here the world was testing him yet again, a hand lifted to rub over the itchy five o'clock shadow he sported idly considering shaving, his dagger was sharp enough if nothing startled him. He'd do it in the morning, for now he had to try and keep away the memories that reared the heads as everything became quiet and dark, how silent and strange it was compared to the incessant roaring of the huge guns and the flashes of light as shells exploded. Closing his eyes against the memories, Logan began to shut out everything in an attempt to cope.

Luna chuffed as she was pushed back off the man and her tail swept the leafy ground. She watched as he scratched his face with a fair away look in his eyes and the shifter crept closer as he lay down. Keeping in her canine form she curled up beside him but not close enough for him to feel her fur on his skin nor would he roll over and land on her body. Her ears remained pricked as she kept watch for a short while until sleep over come her sending her into dreamland.

He'd remained sitting, merely attempting to push away the various memories, in the end he decided to kill the fire. It was too much of a risk to keep burning at night with the germans around, even if it meant he'd be a bit colder at least it'd dried his pants as well as the jacket and shirt he'd washed earlier. Pulling the clothes on he eyed the pine trees nearby, perhaps it'd be better to clamber up one of those and be out of reach of the germans. There hadn't been any planes flying over head, and doubtless they'd begin to forget to look up, he spent the night sitting there mulling it over procrastinating sleep. Sleep wasn't good, he didn't sleep peacefully these days. When the sun peeped over the ever distant horizon he was up and ready to go, he'd long learned to run on barely anything to eat, "Come on dog" he nudged the creature awake, there was ground to cover.

Luna leapt to her paws with bared teeth at the nudge until she realised it was the man who had done it. Shaking her fur out she padded into the undergrowth to do her business, making sure to bury it before going and grabbing the basket. She bounded back out with it in her jaws and she pawed at his leg to show she was ready to go. Her tail wagged swiftly as she kept close to his body hesitating only when they left her lands and entered that of the tiger Adols. Her hackles raised as she kept looking around for the other shifter, it wouldn't do to be found with the man on his land and she hoped they would be out before nightfall.

Sharp dog claws pricked his skin through his pants, his eyes narrowed somewhat at the constant thing with the basket the dog had. It consistently kept acting as a dog wouldn't, trying to ignore the suspicion and wariness that he felt around the dog a familiar smell permeated his senses. The smell of a corpse beginning to grow old, guessing it was the hare the strange dog still hadn't eaten Logan spoke "leave it be dog" continuing to stride along he changed his grip on the rifle when the dog showed signs of unease. He kept the pace steady, remembering having to march from place to place as the battle fields shifted, eventually the forest gave way to rolling open planes with distant hills. Despite his misgivings this place was beautiful, the river had become a small brook wnding through the long grassed plains, for a moment he pondered how easily war could turn this place into a wasteland, he'd seen it happen many tmes before

Luna flattened her ears slightly when she was told to leave her basket behind but she had picked up one of her older ones so she wasn't to worried she could always make a new one. She paused just long enough to hid it in the undergrowth before keeping up a steady trot by the mans side. Although she did grab the soap and cloth covering to carry. She relaxed more once they hit the open plains as they left Adols territory behind them and she bounded ahead leaping much like a puppy into the sky.

What the hell was it with the dog? Hiding a fucking basket? That wasn't normal, he knew normal, this wasn't normal nor was the insistent way it carried the soap and piece of cloth. Deciding that he'd have to keep an eye on the dog, the wary and suspicious man kept a wary gaze on the animal. He was tired, stressed and sore, the peculiar antics of the dog wasn't helping, eventually the toll on his body was too much and he stopped for a rest, slowly sitting down he pulled his gun to rest over his lap. Fighting sleep not wanting to waste day light with sleeping, instead he sat still with his eyes closed listening to the sounds of nature around him the peace and quiet such a contrast a pleasant one at that to the roars of shells being fired from huge machinery. The quiet was nice, it allowed him to relax and focus on something other than the peculiar antics of the dog.

Luna bounded back to the man and dropped her bundle beside him as she flopped to the ground panting lightly. She wondered just where he had come from as she gazed up at him with blue eyes and she rolled onto her back as a light breeze ruffled over the pair. That action brought her leg briefly into contact with his as she settled into the soft grass. They were still close to a days walk from the nearest village even with his steady pace because he wasn't able to run like she normally did most of the way there.
